Council Bluffs, IA
WLA provided engineering design services for a wastewater lift station at the Oak Ridge Estates residential development in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Wastewater generated from the residential development is collected and pumped into the City of Council Bluffs’ collection sewer system. Project elements included two 111gallon per minute non-clog submersible pumps, wet well, valve vault and 2,030 feet of four-inch, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) force main. The lift station is controlled by a programmable logic control (PLC) system and is integrated with the Council Bluffs Board of Public Works microwave radio communication system. During the early phases of the lift station’s operation, generation of significant wastewater odors was anticipated. As a result, an odor control and storage tank system was included. An anthraquinone and nitrate salt solution is injected into the wet well to chemically react with dissolved sulfide and prevent the formation of hydrogen sulfide.
