Environmental Scientist
Duties: The candidate will be working under the close supervision of senior staff, responsible for providing technical support related to environmental projects including investigations, assessments, engineering studies, designs, and construction-phase services performed in accordance with state and federal regulations. Successful candidate must be customer focused, technically oriented, self-motivated & able to meet project deadlines within budget with minimal supervision. This position typically consists of a 50/50 split between office and field duties. Field duties include on-site data collection including industrial site visits, groundwater and soil sampling and contractor oversight as well as records research at state and municipal offices. Office work includes project coordination, data management and report writing. Functions may also require supporting other office activities related to environmental consulting operations such as client interactions, preparation of statement of qualifications and proposals. Candidate will be expected to acquire a working knowledge of air quality regulations, air permitting application process and emissions inventories. Other responsibilities include development of Facility Response Plans, Spill Prevention, Control & Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) compliance and compliance auditing and regulatory reviews.
Job Requirements: We require a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science or a related field. Zero to a maximum of four years experience required. Knowledge of Federal and state environmental regulations is beneficial. Must be well organized, eager to learn and willing to take on a wide variety of tasks. Strong data interpretation, report writing, communication and field skills a must. Proficiency in basic computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, MS Windows) is required. Experience with Microsoft Access and/or GIS software is desirable. 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER training a plus. Candidate must be available to travel via land and/or air and possess a valid driver’s license in good standing.

Project Engineer
The Project Engineer will participate in a variety of design projects with an environmental focus, especially working with various wastewater processes. In addition to design work, the Engineer will also be involved with compliance projects, including storm water plans, air emission calculations, spill plans and other similar activities.
Previous experience in the field is desired, but recent graduates will be considered.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Preparation of earthwork volumes and storm drainage calculations, design of utilities, including storm and sanitary sewers, waterlines, waterline sizing, grading and drainage plans, construction documents and all supporting documentation.
- The Project Engineer is responsible for completing assigned tasks under the direct supervision of the Project Manager or other team members.
- May be responsible for assisting with marketing, business development, project management and client communication on a limited and assigned basis.
- Must have the ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
Responsibilities Associated With Primary Duties
Basic and fundamental technical knowledge of the following is expected:
a) Wastewater pond and lagoon design.
b) Sedimentation basin design.
c) Gravity collection sewers.
d) Pump transfer stations and force main piping.
e) Infiltration and inflow assessment.
f) Storm water runoff and channel design.
g) Hydrologic and hydraulic analysis.
h) Process pump design and piping layout.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Job Setting/Environment: Work will generally be based from an office environment, but field work, client meetings and travel are required. Most travel will consist of day length, but will occasionally be required for overnight travel for multiple day assignments. This position often requires long periods working at a desk, usually using a computer. Occasional lifting may be required, up to 40 pounds.
- Operating Hours: Hours will vary based upon job needs, but most often will be between the hours of 8:00 am to 12:00 pm, and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Occasional evening meetings and time beyond a standard 40-hour work week can be expected. Long hours, travel, and nights away may be required.
- Travel may be required between WLA offices on a frequent basis.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
